MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - Union took the Appalachian Athletic Conference series against Milligan (Tenn.) by posting a 15-1 romp on Sunday.

With the win, the Bulldogs took two of the three games, improving their record to 15-6 overall and 5-1 in league play. Union is now tied with Bryan for first in the conference standings.

Milligan sits at 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the AAC.

Tied at 1-1 in the fourth, Union pieced together a three-run rally to take the lead for good. Miguel Mendez (SR, Lansing, Mich.) began the scoring when a wild pitch allowed him to come home. Later in the frame, the Bulldogs loaded the bases when a hit by pitch and a walk pushed the next two runs across to make it 4-1.

Nelson Price (JR, Burkesville, Ky.) homered in the seventh to make it a 5-1 contest, and the floodgates opened up in the ninth when the Bulldogs posted a 10-run rally.

Four Bulldogs drove in two RBIs, including Price who finished 3-for-5 at the plate. Ryan Horvath (JR, Madison Heights, Mich.) went 3-for-6 with double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while J.D. Burrell (JR, Amanda, Ohio) and Vance Sullivan (JR, Verona, Ky.) each drove in a pair.

Casey Whittle (FR, Danville, Ky.) improved to 4-0 on the season, going five ininngs and allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

By the Numbers

  • Price has now homered in back-to-back games, giving him five on the year to equal his career best for most in a season.
  • Whittle joins Luke Collis (SR, St. Charles, Mo.) in being 4-0 on the season.
  • Whittle lowered his ERA to 2.55, second best on the Union pitching who average 1.0 innings pitched per team game played. Justin King (JR, Barbourville, Ky.) leads the way with a 2.25 ERA.
