WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Union College men's cross country team placed 13th at the Wilmington (Ohio) Fall Classic on Friday in a 16-team field.
For the first time this season, Union fielded a full team and held its own with a solid, 13th-place finish as it posted 367 points.
"We actually finished with a team score and even beat a few teams," said Union coach Jamie Jimison. "It was gratifying to have Scotty, Johnny and Dustin out there volunteering themselves, sacrificing their time, energy, and bodies for their teammates."
Junior Brandon Kibert (Tazewell, Tenn.) led Union with a 33rd-place finish with a time of 27 minutes and 38.35 seconds. Brennan O'Quinn (Meadowview, Va.) was 76th with a time of 29:02.39. Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, Ga.) was 98th with a time of 29:55.60. Scotty Barnes (Ewing, Va.) came in 154th with a time of 35:38.31, while Johnny Barnes (Stone Mountain, Ga.) posted a time of 37:30.16 to come in 160th. On the women's side, Leslie Emmett (Middlesboro, Ky.) posted a time of 26:22.62 to come in 121st.
"Leslie and the guys put in good efforts, and I expect big things in the weeks to come," Jimison added.
Union's next race is set for Saturday, Oct. 21, at Southeast Classic in Berea, Ky.
