
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College's Renata Peixoto was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year, the conference announced Monday. She also was the Offensive Player of the year. Ashley Hall also won the AAC Golden Boot award. A total of five Lady Bulldogs were on the All-AAC team.
Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) broke the Union single-season assist record with 27 this season. The total ranks third in NAIA history as well. The sophomore midfielder also recorded 15 goals. She had eight matches with a goal and assist. In seven conference contest, she scored three goals with 10 assists. The five assists against Bluefield (Va.) College put her in a tie for the fifth-most assists in a match in NAIA history. She also moved up to sixth on Union's all-time assists list with 31 through two seasons. Her 71 career points are 11th in school history.
She is the fourth Lady Bulldog to earn the AAC Player of the Year honor and the first since 2005. Alessandra Tavoloni won the award in 2003 and 2005 while current Union assistant coach Camila Mendes was the 2004 winner. She is the first AAC Offensive Player of the Year in program history.
Hall, a sophomore forward from Hazard, Ky. totaled 19 goals with four assists. She had six multi-goal matches, and three were in AAC play. Her first collegiate hat trick came against Montreat (N.C.) College. Hall also was credited with five game-winning goals and two came in the conference. She ranks 12th in Union history with 26 career goals.
Heather Jaques (Manitoba, Canada) also made the All-AAC first team. She scored 12 goals and added eight assists. The senior midfielder also accounted one game-winning goal with two multi-goal matches. Jaques was an honorable mention NAIA All-American last year. She finished her career ranked eight on Union's career points list with 100.
On the second-team was freshman Marcela Salum (Guatemala City, Guatemala). The forward scored 16 goals with nine assists. She posted four multi-goal matches and two were hat tricks.
Senior Ashleigh Mensch (Elizabethtown, Ky.) landed on the All-AAC third team. The defender scored a goal against Cumberland (Tenn.) University for her lone goal of the season.
Hall, Mensch and Peixoto also made the grade for the Academic All-AAC team. Estefania Cirigliano (Neuquen, Argentina), Karla Goncalves (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Kristina Kirk (Versailles, Ky.) were also members of the Academic All-AAC team.
Union finished the season with a 14-5 record after a 1-0 loss at Tennessee Wesleyan College in an AAC Tournament Quarterfinal contest Saturday. The 14 wins are tied for the fourth most in program history.
