BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College knows the path towards the Appalachian Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament Championship, and the trek starts Friday with a 1 p.m. match against Covenant (Ga.) College at the MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

Union enters the postseason as the third seed and plays sixth-seeded Covenant. The Lady Bulldogs swept Covenant this season with a 3-1 win at Covenant along with a 3-0 home sweep.

The meeting with Covenant will be the second for Union in post-season play. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Covenant 3-0 in the 2003 AAC Tournament. Union also has built a nine-match winning streak over Covenant dating back to the 2004 season. On neutral courts this season, Union went 4-4.

Also at 1 p.m., Montreat (N.C.) College, the fourth seed, battle fifth-seeded Milligan (Tenn.) College.

The tournament starts with a pair of 9 a.m. play-in matches. Seventh-seeded Bluefield (Va.) College plays Virginia Intermont College, the tenth seed, in one contest. The other features eighth-seeded UVa-Wise against ninth-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan College. The winners advance to play at 11 a.m.

Regular-season champion and top-seed King (Tenn.) College gets the winner between UVa-Wise and Tennessee Wesleyan. Bryan (Tenn.) College, the second seed, waits to play the winner of the Bluefield and Virginia Intermont contest.

The four quarterfinal winners advance to a pair of winners' bracket semifinal contests at 4 p.m. The winners' bracket final is scheduled for 7 p.m. A series of losers' bracket matches start the day Saturday at 9 a.m. with the tournament championship scheduled for 2 p.m. The tournament winner will advance to the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament.
