CINCINNATI, Ohio - Union College returned to the lanes for the first time since the end of the November and turned in a 37th-place finish at the Hoinke Bearcat Open this weekend.
The Bulldogs had a total pinfall of 8,356 to place 37th out of 45 teams.
"This was the biggest tournament as far as the number of teams that we've been a part of so far," said Union coach Matt Mahony. "This was another good learning experience for us. We had a long layoff due to the holiday break, but we're getting better and moving in the right direction."
The top five times were Wright State (Ohio) (10,297 pins), Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) (9,918 pins), Lindenwood (Mo.) (9,851 pins), McKendree (Ill.) (9,761 pins) and Pikeville (Ky.) (9,707 pins).
Chad Ferguson (Louisville, Ky.) led Union with a total pinfall of 1,871 in nine games. His average of 207.9 ranked him 41st overall. Jesse Beal (Dayton, Ohio) knocked down 1,690 pins in nine games, while Haley McDowell (Lexington, Ky.) had a pinfall of 1,038 in six games for an average of 173.
Union returns to action on Jan. 24-25 at the Blue & Gold Classic in South Bend, Ind.
