BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College looks to build upon a two-game Appalachian Athletic Conference winning streak Wednesday when Virginia Intermont College visits for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

Union held Milligan (Tenn.) College scoreless for a nine-minute span in a come-from behind 61-50 road victory Saturday. Beau Brown (Athens, Tenn.) scored a team-high 13 points. Tino Washington (Lexington, Ky.) went 3-for-3 from behind the 3-point line en route to an 11-point effort.

The stifling Bulldog defense held Milligan to a season-low 50 points. It is the fewest points allowed by Union since Milligan scored 46 last season.

The win improved Union to 8-4 in the conference and it kept the Bulldogs in a tie for third place with Tennessee Wesleyan College. The two teams set two games behind No. 23 King (Tenn.) College while No. 10 Bluefield (Va.) College owns a perfect 12-0 AAC record.

Brown's scoring average did not move from 13.5 after Saturday's contest, which still leads Union. He is the lone Bulldog to start every game this season. Brown also took the team lead in the steals category with 1.95 in each game. James Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) and Michael Hester (Independence, Ky.) are also adding 10 points apiece.

Brett Miller (Carrolton, Ky.) is grabbing 5.2 rebounds per game.

Union ended January with a 5-3 record, the most wins in a month this season. The Bulldogs won four times in November. December saw Union win three times in four contests.

The first game of the month has not been kind to Union this season. In the previous four months' opening game, the Bulldogs have lost the contest. The last time Union won the first game of the month was in January 2008, an 87-81 overtime victory over Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University. Over the last four seasons, Union has a 5-11 record in the first game of the month.

Virginia Intermont suffered a 93-75 defeat against King Saturday and it extended the Cobras' losing streak to five games.

The Cobras' Akeem Price poured in 25 points to lead all scorers. He still ranks second in the conference and 14th among NAIA Division II players with a 20.8 scoring average.

Against teams from the state of Kentucky, Virginia Intermont has a 0-5 record this season, including Union's victory. The Cobras lost two games to Georgetown College along with contests against Lindsey Wilson College and Campbellsville University.

In the last 15 games outside of Virginia, the Cobras are 1-14 dating back to last season.

The Bulldogs have played two other teams from Virginia this season, Bluefield and UVa-Wise. In all, Union has a 2-2 record against Virginia squads.

Two games is also the length of Union's current winning streak over Virginia Intermont. Both wins were at Virginia Intermont though. In last season's meeting at Robsion Arena, the Bulldogs lost 86-76.

The series history is about as even as it can be. Over the seven years Union has been a member of the AAC, the Bulldogs hold a 7-6 advantage. At home, Union owns a 4-2 record over the Cobras. In the six seasons though, no team has swept the season series. Of the 13 games, four have been decided by five or fewer points and two have been over-time contest.

Union's two-game winning streak matches the longest owned by either team in the series. Virginia Intermont won back-to-back contest which spanned across the 2002-03 season over to the 2003-04 season.

In the first contest between the two, Union held on, 79-75, as the Cobras slithered back into the game played on Dec. 6. Michael Hester (Independence, Ky.) paced the Bulldogs with 16 points with eight assists. Brown contributed 15 points with six rebounds. Kearney Demus (Lexington, Ky.) and Miller scored 10 points apiece.

Price led all scorers with 26 in a losing effort and White added 18 points.
