BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College collected five new NAIA national cuts Saturday as part of a home meet against King (Tenn.) College and Campbellsville (Ky.) University. Two team records were also broken by a Bulldog.

Michael Viscardi (Marietta, Ga.) broke the 50-yard breaststroke and 100 breaststroke school records. He lowered the 50 record to 29.19 seconds. Viscardi swam the 100 in one minute and 1.90 seconds.

Jeremiah Back (Flatgap, Ky.) swam to two "B" cuts in the freestyle events. The 50 yard time was 23.57 seconds followed by a 51.75 second swim over 100 yards.

Roberto Bertholo Jr. (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) posted a national "A" cut in the 50 freestyle with a 22.51 second swim.

Kristina Kirk (Versailles, Ky.) needed 1:06.71 to complete the 100 backstroke, good enough for an "A" cut.

Mollie Messmer (Scott City, Mo.) added a "B" cut in the 200 individual medley. The junior completed the event in 2:27.86.

"We swum well despite the fact we are very tired and sore from the past weeks of training," said Union head coach Rafael Forti. "I know we are heading to the right direction."

Union defeated Campbellsville (Ky.) University and King (Tenn.) College in the combined scoring. Union bested Campbellsville 143-32 and against King the score was 118-72 in favor of Union.

The Lady Bulldogs narrowly beat both, defeating Campbellsville by 25 (57-32) and King by 11 (53-42). On the men's side, Union won 65-30 over King. Campbellsville did not record a point in the men's competition.

Next on the schedule is the last home meet of the season Saturday when Bellarmine (Ky.) University, a NCAA Division II squad, comes to Barbourville for a 1 p.m. meet.
