BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Riding a three-game win streak and in a tie for first place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, Union College seeks to continue its roll as the Lady Bulldogs prepare to host Covenant (Ga.) College Saturday at 4 p.m.

Union is tied with Milligan (Tenn.) College for first in the AAC as each owns an 11-4 conference record. The Lady Bulldogs are 19-8 overall and posed to record back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in program history. Union went 25-9 in 2007-08.

Covenant currently sits sixth in the conference standings at 14-12 overall and 8-7 in league play.

Union is on a three-game win streak, and during that stretch, junior Brooke Smith (Pineville, Ky.) has come up huge as she has recorded a double-double in each game. The 6-foot forward/center is averaging 26 points and 11.7 rebounds over the last three games.

In their last game, the Lady Bulldogs used a late rally to pull out a 70-63 decision at Tennessee Wesleyan College. Smith and Ashley Lunsford (Orlando, Ky.) each recorded a double-double.

Smith posted her seventh of the season with a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds. Smith also made 10-of-11 free throws. Lunsford chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year.

The score was tight for much of the second half with neither team leading by more than three. Up 61-60 with 1:53 remaining, Union reeled off five straight points to open up a 66-60 lead. Ashton Burrell buried a 3-pointer to pull Tennessee Wesleyan within 66-63 with 50 seconds left.

Susanna Todd (Eubank, Ky.) and Smith each hit a pair of free throws doing the closing moments to seal the 70-63 victory.

Smith leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 20.6 points and 7.81 rebounds per game. Lunsford, Todd and Carley Blankenship (Lexington, Ky.) are all averaging just under 10 points a night.

Covenant has won its last two games, winning 90-57 at Virginia Intermont College on Feb. 4 and 68-63 over Montreat (N.C.) College on Wednesday.

Liz Martin leads the Lady Scots in scoring with 23.4 points per game, while DeDe Walls is the team's top rebounder at 7.31.

On Jan. 14, Union posted 66-57 win at Covenant. Shooting nearly 62 percent in the second half, Union College turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 66-57 AAC victory.

Smith posted her third-straight double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) and Blankenship led the team with 15 points apiece.

While Martin netted a game-high 19 points, it came on 7-of-25 shooting (28 percent) from the field and 1-of-11 shooting from behind the arc. Erika Forland chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds.
