BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Three Covenant (Ga.) College Lady Scots netted 20 or more points as they overcame an eight-point, second-half deficit to upend host Union College 87-80 Saturday.

The loss was a tough blow for the Lady Bulldogs because instead of being in first place all by themselves, they are now back in a three-way tie atop the Appalachian Athletic Conference standing. Union (19-9 overall), Milligan (Tenn.) College and King (Tenn.) College all share an 11-5 conference mark.

With the win, Covenant improved to 15-12 overall and 9-7 in the AAC.

Liz Martin and Ashley Wilson each netted 21 points with Wilson grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double for Covenant. Nathalea Gulyas also recorded a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards.

Courtney Thomas (Glasgow, Ky.) posted her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 boards to go with a team-high six assists. Junior Brooke Smith (Pineville, Ky.) nearly registered her fourth double-double in a row with a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds.

Union led by as many eight points in the second half and was up 74-67 with 7:03 to play. Covenant cut the margin to one when Susanna Todd (Eubank, Ky.) buried a 3-pointer to make it 79-75 with 2:33 remaining. The Lady Scots countered with a 10-0 to seize an 85-79 lead with 23 seconds to play. Martin and Wilson each scored four points during the rally.

Ashley Lunsford (Orlando, Ky.) hit one of two free throws to make it 85-80 with 11 seconds to play, but Gulyas connected on two free throws to seal the 87-80 victory.

The loss was the first for Union when scoring 80 or more points, however, the Lady Bulldogs or 0-4 on the year when the opponent scores over 80.

Turnovers hurt Union as Covenant cashed in 18 Lady Bulldog miscues for 19 points, while Union only scored nine points off of 13 Lady Scot turnovers.

Todd, who was scoreless at the half, hit 5-of-7 from 3-point range to finish with 15 points.

Hannah Craft also scored in double figures for Covenant, netting 11 points.

Union travels to Montreat (N.C.) College Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
