BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - A trio of Union College players scored in double-digits as the Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday with a convincing 94-70 win over Covenant (Ga.) College.

The Bulldogs improved to 9-7 in conference play and evened their overall record to 13-13. The win is the first in the month of February for Union.

Union started the game on a 4-0 run over the first three minutes and Covenant's first basket came 3:22 into the game. The Bulldogs scored five straight points before another Covenant 3-pointer. Union would extend leads out only to watch the Scots battle to within three points. However the Bulldogs eventually built a double-digit lead, 25-13, behind a Kearney Demus (Lexington, Ky.) 3-poiner halfway through the half. Demus' three points were a part of eight straight points the junior contributed.

The lead grew to 23 points as Demus scored his 10th point of the half. The closest margin Covenant could battle back to was 14 points in the final moments before halftime. Union took a 47-32 lead into the half-time break. The 15-point advantage matches Union's largest half-time lead this season. The 47 Bulldog points is also the most in the opening half.

The second half started with Union pushing the lead to 55-36 only to see Covenant answer with eight straight points. The advantage never slipped below double-digits down the stretch and the largest lead of the night came in the final score, 24 points.

Demus and Ryan Bretz (Carlisle, Ky.) paced Union with 16 poitns apiece. James Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) posted 14 points. Antonio Murry (Antioch, Tenn.) gathered seven rebounds and dished out six assists. Michael Hester (Independence, Ky.) also was credited with six assists along with a trio of steals.

The Bulldogs contributed 24 assists, the fifth time this season Union has 20 or more assists.

From the field, Union went 33-for-58 (56.9 percent) while Covenant was 25-for-56 (44.6 percent). Of Union's 33 baskets, a dozen were from behind the 3-point line, a season best for the Bulldogs.

Davis Eldridge nearly scored half of Covenant's points as he had 31. Reed Crossen chipped in 14 points.

Union has scored 90 or more points three times this year and two were against Covenant.

Covenant slipped to 1-15 in the AAC with a 2-25 overall record.

The Bulldogs swept the season series over Covenant. Union opened the series with a 93-67 win at Covenant on Jan. 14. The streak of beating Covenant in Barbourville continues. Union has yet to lose a conference game to the Scots in seven meetings.

Union goes to Montreat (N.C.) College for a Wednesday conference tilt. The contest is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs narrowly defeated Montreat inside Robsion Arena 77-75 on Jan. 17.
