BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College added two Cincinnati State College players to the soccer roster for the 2009 season. Edwin Hobson and Ryan Wantz recently inked with the Bulldogs.

Hobson, a Dayton, Ohio native played on the back line for Cincinnati State. He played his high school soccer at Butler. Hobson was a first-team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference selection.

"I expect for Edwin to come in and really compete for the outside left back job," said Union head coach Tyler Brock. ‘He is vocal, he brings in athleticism and nice touch on the ball as well."

Brock looks for Hobson to replace Taylor Lamblin (Danville, Ky.) who finished his collegiate career this past season.

"Edwin also likes to get forward out of the back and that is very important to us here at Union with our style of play," Brock added.

Wantz plays as a midfielder and outside back. He resides in Centerville, Ohio and was a second-team All-OCCAC player this season. He added a nod as the conference's player of the week as well.

"Ryan will bring some depth to our program," Brock said. "He is patient on the ball and that is very important at this level of the game when you play in the midfield."

Brock also is excited at the different roles Wantz brings to the team.

"Cincinnati State is a quality junior college program and head coach Mike Combs has done a great job up there over the years," Brock commented. "He does a great job preparing players to come to a four-year school, and I appreciate the players that he sends to us here at Union"

Justin Maddock and Nick Rascona joined the Union squad from Cincinnati State. Maddock signed with the Bulldogs in 2006 with Rascona the next season.

Union finished the 2008 season with a 10-5-4 record including a 9-0-2 home record. The Bulldogs finished sixth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference behind a 3-3-1 record before losing in the quarterfinals after a shootout.
