
MONTREAT, N.C. - Union College picked up a 74-61 Appalachian Athletic Conference win at Montreat (N.C.) College Wednesday.
Union improved to 10-7 in conference play and 14-13 overall.
The win secured a winning record in conference play and it is the fourth time Union will have a winning AAC record in seven seasons. The Bulldogs also won 10 AAC games for the fifth time and the first since the 2005-06 season.
After trailing early, Union gained control and took a 31-27 lead into the half-time break.
The Bulldogs built on the lead in the early stages of the second half only to see Montreat claw back into the game.
Anthony Coote (Georgetown, Ky.) scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Bulldogs.
Brett Miller (Carrolton, Ky.) and James Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Montreat moved to 7-10 in the AAC and 10-19 overall.
Seth Moore netted a dozen points while M.J. Njoku scored 10 for Montreat.
For only the second time as a member of the AAC, Union swept the season series against Montreat and snapped a four-game losing streak at Montreat. The first of the season meeting went to Union 77-75 on Jan. 17. The Bulldogs took both games against Montreat during the 2003-04 season.
Union concludes the regular season and AAC play Saturday when King (Tenn.) College pays a visit to Robsion Arena. The contest is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start. The Bulldogs will look to avenge an 80-69 loss at King on Jan. 21.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-5 in Wednesday games. Union also owns a 9-4 record when leading at halftime.
