
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College will enter the 2009 Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will open play Thursday against No. 5 Covenant (Ga.) College at 10:15 a.m.
The AAC Tournament is being held on the campus of King (Tenn.) College in Bristol, Tenn.
The tournament will begin Wednesday at 1 p.m. with No. 8 UVa-Wise (6-23 overall) taking on No. 9 Virginia Intermont College (6-23 overall). At 3 p.m., No. 7 Bluefield (Va.) College (13-17 overall) will square off against No. 10 Montreat (N.C.) College (8-21 overall).
Thursday's action will get underway at 8:30 a.m. with No. 1 King (13-16 overall) meeting the UVa-Wise/Virginia Intermont winner followed by the game between Union (20-10 overall) and Covenant (17-12 overall). At 3:30 p.m., No. 2 Milligan (Tenn.) College (19-11 overall) and the winner of the Bluefield/Montreat contest will meet up, while No. 3 Bryan (Tenn.) College (18-12 overall) and No. 6 Tennessee Wesleyan College (18-12 overall) will play each other at 5:15 p.m.
The semifinal round will begin Friday at 2 p.m. with the Union/Covenant winner playing the King/UVa-Wise/Virginia Intermont victory. At 4 p.m., the Bryan/Tennessee Wesleyan winner will meet the Milligan/Bluefield/Montreat winner.
The championship game is set for Saturday at 4 p.m.
Union has won the last two AAC Tournament championships, winning as the No. 6 seed in 2007 and as the No. 2 seed in 2008.
