
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Union College's 1,600-meter relay team fell short in their quest for a NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship Thursday.
The squad finished 16th with a time of three minutes and 20.93 seconds. The time was 0.83 slower than the qualifying time. Johnnie Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) ran the first leg followed by Marekus Smith (Lithonia, Ga.). Johnny Barnes (Stone Mountain, Ga.) was third followed by anchor-leg Andre Thornton (Loganville, Ga.).
Dickinson State (N.D.) University ran the fastest preliminary time of 3:13.29.
Union will have athletes in two events Friday, the 60-meter dash and the 400 meters. The 60 will race prelims and semis while the 400 is just semifinals.
