
ST. PETERS, Mo. - Union College wrapped up the 2009 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championship Saturday by posting four Top-15 finishes en route to solid team finishes.
Michael Viscardi (Marietta, Ga.) finished eighth in the men's 200-yard breaststroke finals. His finals time of two minutes and 10.77 seconds was slower than his school-record prelim time of 2:08.06.
Tamsin Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) posted a ninth-place swim in the 200 butterfly. The freshman completed the event in 2:09.93 to lower her Union record.
The Lady Bulldogs' 400 freestyle relay squad finished 13th. The group needed 3:49.64 to cover the distance in program-record fashion.
The men's 400 freestyle relay team trimmed seven seconds off their prelim time en route to a 14th-place swim. The quartet finished at the 3:19.69 mark to once again break the Union record.
Mollie Messmer (Scott City, Mo.) lowered her 1,650 freestyle record down to 18:35.21 and finished 10th in the event.
Colin McEachran (Blenheim, Canada) cut his school-record 1,650 freestyle time down to 17:48.66 in the finals.
The Bulldogs were 10th behind 68 points while the Lady Bulldogs collected 76 points to finish 12th.
Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) swam away with the women's crown with 691 points. California Baptist University was second with 639.5 points. On the men's side California Baptist captured the national championship with 693 points, 204 points better than Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University.
