SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Union College junior Brooke Smith has been named a 2009 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball All-American as a member of the Third Team, the NAIA announced Tuesday.

This marks the second year in a row Smith (Pineville, Ky.) earned a spot on the NAIA All-American Third Team.

Smith led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding, averaging 21.5 points and 8.10 rebounds per game. She also blocked a team-high 50 shots during the 2008-09 season.

The 6-foot forward/center ranked fifth in NAIA Division II in scoring, 10th in field-goal percentage (54.8 percent) and 20th in blocks per game (1.613). In addition, Smith shot 32.3 percent from 3-point range and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line.

On Feb. 18, Smith scored a season-high 43 points in 79-76 Union victory at Montreat (N.C.) College. She also scored 20 or more points in 18 games this season.

Smith earned Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the second year in a row.

Union finished the season 20-11 overall and 12-6 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
