BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – In the Union College cycling team’s first weekend of action at Purdue (Ind.) University and Butler (Ind.) University, freshman Zach Winn won two races in his first collegiate action.

Winn (Ontario, Canada) competed in the Men’s Expert Class and won his preliminary short track race then won the final as well. He also won the Men’s Expert cross country race.

Greg Gibson (Salt Lake City, Utah) also turned in an impressive performance with a fifth-place finish in the Men’s Expert cross country race to go with a 7th-place Men’s Expert short track finish. Jonathan Turner (Harlan, Ky.) finished 12th in the Men’s Short Track final, behind Winn and Gibson.

In the Men’s B-Class short track final, Zac Moore (Loveland, Ohio), Colin McEacharan (Ontario, Canada) and Sean Trinque (Burriville, R.I.) all finished in the Top-10.

On the women’s side, Amy Russell (Monticello, Ky.) and Karen Caldwell (Bristol, Tenn.) finished third and fourth respectively in the B-Class cross country race.

Also, in cross country action, Andrew Reed (Robinson, Texas) finished seven in the Men’s B-Class. Steven Childers (Jenkins, Ky.), Clay Steiger (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Josh Thomas (Lexington, Ky.) all made an impact in the Men’s C-Class cross country race.

Next weekend, Union will step out of the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference to race at the University of Georgia in Athens.
