BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Freshman catcher Jonathan Riddle had his best day of the season thus far as he helped No. 7 Union College to a 16-0 victory over visiting Berea (Ky.) College Thursday.

Riddle (Eighty Eight, Ky.) went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in what was his sixth start of the season, giving Lioney Henriquez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) a break behind the plate.

The victory stretched Union's win streak to seven games, improving the team's record to 27-5 overall. Berea dropped to 7-19.

Union received a solid pitching performance out of starter Adam Snyder (Knoxville, Tenn.), who went six innings and gave up no runs on two hits and no walks with six strikeouts. With the win, Snyder is now 2-1 on the year.

The Bulldog offense started a little slow against the Mountaineers, scoring a run in each of the first three innings for a 3-0 lead. Joe Grinstead (Bowling Green, Ky.) hit a solo shot in the first, and Riddle singled in a run in the second. Troy Sitton (Cobden, Ill.) added a solo home run in the third for the three-run cushion.

Union busted loose for five runs in the fifth to up the margin to 8-0. Riddle provided a two-run single during the rally.

After making it 9-0 in the fifth, the Bulldogs reeled off seven runs in the sixth to seal the 16-0 decision. C.R. Berry (Roark, Ky.) lined a two-run double, while Kris Mills (Barbourville, Ky.) helped out with a two-run single.

Lucas Henson (Corbin, Ky.) tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning to end the game.

Sitton finished the day 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Tyler Martin (Corbin, Ky.) was 1-for-1 with two RBIs.

Union returns to action Saturday and Sunday at Virginia Intermont College in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. Saturday's twinbill and Sunday's nine-inning affair will both begin at 1 p.m.

Bulldog Notes

  • Brandon Hedrick (Corbin, Ky.) finished 1-for-3 in extending his team-best hitting streak to 12 games.
  • The Bulldogs are now 18-3 in games they score first and 15-3 when scoring in the first inning.
  • The shutout was the fourth for Union this season. The Bulldogs registered 11 in 2008.
  • Union stole four more bases, giving it 96 on the year.
  • Berea failed to get a runner past first base all game as the Mountaineers stranded two on first and hit into one double play.
