BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College freshman Abby Sears was honored by the Appalachian Athletic Conference with the organization's Pitcher of the Week award Monday.

This is the second time Sears, a London, Ky. native, has received the honor. The first time she received the award was on March 9.

She won all three of her starts last week including two conference wins as she helped Union to a 5-1 record during the period.

Sears threw a total of 23 innings during in the three complete-game outings in which she recorded 32 strikeouts. Her three double-digit strikeout games give her four on the season.

In Saturday's conference tilt with leader Milligan (Tenn.) College, Sears went the distance for her ninth win of the season. In the nine innings she surrendered three runs, one earned, on five hits. During the contest she worked her way out of a bases-loaded situation with no outs thanks to one of her 11 strikeouts and two pop ups in the infield.

Against Pikeville (Ky.) College last Monday she allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out 11 over the seven innings. In Wednesday's conference meeting with Bluefield (Va.) College Sears struck out 10 batters in seven innings. She gave up two runs on two hits in the contest.

For the season Sears owns a 9-6 record with a 1.58 earned-run average. In 101.2 innings she has 107 strikeouts. She has posted four games this season in which an opponent has recorded fewer than three hits and two were last week.

Sears has thrown three extra-inning games this season and with the Milligan win her record improved to 2-1 in those contests. She has won her last three starts, matching her season best.

Union enters Wednesday's conference doubleheader at King (Tenn.) College with an overall record of 18-13 with an even 4-4 AAC record.
