LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - No. 22 Union College clinched a share of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Tennis regular season title for the fourth time Wednesday thanks to an 8-1 win at Covenant (Ga.) College.

Union's 2009 record in conference play improved to 5-0 with an overall record of 10-1 behind a nine-match winning streak. The Lady Bulldogs have won 34 straight matches against conference foes including 30 during the regular season over the last four years.

In order to claim the regular-season championship outright, the Bulldogs need to defeat Milligan (Tenn.) College April 16.

Union started the match by sweeping all three doubles' points. Camila Cunha (Sao Paulo, Brazil) needed a tie-breaker to improve her single's record to 8-2 this season. She won 6-3, 4-6, 10-1. The other four singles' points for Union were straight-set wins.

The five singles' victories gave Union a 51-8 record in contested matches this season.

For the fourth-straight match the Lady Bulldogs won all three doubles' contests.

The point won by Covenant is the first Union has lost in three matches.

Covenant ended AAC play with a 5-1 record while the overall record went to 11-3.

Union will make the journey to No. 17 Shorter (Ga.) College for a 2 p.m. match Thursday.
