
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College tried to find an answer for Reinhardt (Ga.) College's Andrea Thibaudeu Saturday, however she recorded three hits in both games of Reinhardt's sweep at Union Field. The first game saw a 6-1 score while game two went nine innings and finished with a 6-5 result.
Thibaudeu went 3-for-4 including a double and triple in the first game. The second game saw her go 3-for-5 with a double and home run. Combined in both games she drove in two runs, scored five times and stole a base in game two.
After the day Union's record moved to 18-17 while Reinhardt went to 22-14.
A RBI single from Mallory Lavoy (Temperance, Mich.) tied the opening contest at one apiece in the second inning. Ashley Tatman (Lexington, Ky.) came home from third after she started the inning by walking.
Union had a bases-loaded with no outs situation during the third frame, but the Lady Bulldogs were unable to push a run across.
Reinhardt used a squeeze bunt from Morgan Basone in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Thibaudeu scored on the play after her lead-off triple. The visitors added four more runs in the top of the seventh. Thibaudeu scored the game's first run in the opening inning when Basone singled to right.
Lee Davis (Lexington, Ky.) and Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) posted 2-for-4 games for Union. Both of Driver's hits were doubles.
To go with Thibaudeu's effort, Nicole Rice and Basone provided 2-for-4 performances. Basone drove in two runs while Rice had one RBI.
Of Reinhardt's 10 hits, seven came in the final two innings.
Alex Riccardi went all seven innings and scattered eight hits. She gave up one earned run with a walk and a strikeout.
Driver was the losing pitcher as she allowed six earned runs on 10 hits. The junior mixed in five strikeouts.
Alice Blauser (Hopkinsville, Ky.) extended her hitting streak to 10 games in the contest, however it was snapped in game two. The 10-game hitting streak is the longest any Lady Bulldog has recorded this season.
Union was unable to answer Reinhardt's two runs in the top of the ninth of the final contest. The Lady Bulldogs pushed across a single run in the frame. Driver singled in the hole on the left side of the infield and Lavoy cut the deficit in half at 6-5. Two more outs finished the game and Union's comeback efforts.
The Lady Bulldogs forced another extra inning thanks to a squeeze play in the eighth. Tatman laid down the bunt and Davis scored. Union eventually left the bases loaded in the inning.
Driver put Union in front after she singled to center with two outs in the fourth inning. Lavoy came around from second to make the score 3-2. Earlier in the inning Jessie Dunning (Bowling Green, Ky.) tied the contest when Lavoy hit safely into right field.
Dunning singled to center field and Abby Sears (London, Ky.) came home from second to tie the game at one apiece in Union's half of the second. Dunning added another hit in a 2-for-4 effort. In six games this season the freshman has two multi-hit efforts.
Thibaudeu made her third hit of the contest count as she homered to left to once again tie the contest at three in the top of the fifth.
Casey Hollifield was squeezed home from third by Basone in the opening frame and Sears was unable to handle the ball in front of the mound.
Basone grounded to third, however on the play Hollifield came in to score Reinhardt's second run of the game in Reinhardt's half of the third.
Driver went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks. The two hits in each game give her eight multi-hit contests this season. Tatman added two hits.
Sears went all nine innings giving up six runs, two earned, on 10 hits. The freshman recorded six strikeouts.
Becca Jones was the winning pitcher thanks to nine innings of work. Of her five runs allowed three were earned. Union was able to record 11 hits off her.
Hollfied, Alex Oswald and Bailey Arnaud added two hits apiece. Hollifield scored two times and stole a base in the game.
Next on Union's schedule is an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday at Covenant (Ga.) College. The first game is set to start at 3 p.m.
