LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Union College bounced back Wednesday to capture two Appalachian Athletic Conference wins at Covenant (Ga.) College. The Lady Bulldogs won the opening contest 8-1 before a game-two 3-1 victory.

The wins evened Union's conference record to 7-7 and the Lady Bulldogs' overall record went to 21-18. Covenant slipped to 4-6 in conference play and 13-11 overall.

Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) threw all seven innings in the opening contest. She struck out five Covenant batters and allowed three hits. In the second game Driver went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Alice Blauser (Hopkinsville, Ky.) and Ashley Tatman (Lexington, Ky.) both provided three-hit games in the opener. Each player had a double and Blauser scored twice.

Abby Sears (London, Ky.) pitched game two and mixed in nine strikeouts. Covenant recorded four hits off the freshman.

Lee Davis (Lexington, Ky.) had a two-hit effort thanks to a double and triple. Bethany Outland (Hopkinsville, Ky.) went 2-for-4 in the contest.

Union travels to No. 20 Campbellsville (Ky.) University for a Thursday doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • The conference sweep is only the second of the season. Union beat Bluefield (Va.) College twice on April 1. The 2008 squad swept two conference foes.
  • Union is 12-0 when holding an opponent one run or a shutout.
