BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - No. 25 Union College placed five players on the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference team along with two conference players of the year to go along with head coach Renzo Lopez winning the conference's coach of the year award as the organization announced the awards Friday.

Camila Cunha (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Juliana Negosek (Curitiba, Brazil) were named as the AAC Players of the Year along with Tennessee Wesleyan College's Karolina Pierko.

Cunha posted a 9-2 record in singles' play this season while Negosek was 11-1. The two teamed up for a 9-2 mark in No. 1 doubles' action throughout 2009.

The award was the second straight season Cunha has taken home the conference's top honor and the first for Negosek.

Lopez earned his third straight AAC Women's Coach of the Year award. He has won the award three straight years. Since the program was brought back for the 2006 season, Lopez has guided the Lady Bulldogs to a 57-17 record with three AAC regular-season titles.

Cunha and Negosek joined Ximena Aguilar (Morelia, Mexico), Andressa Coelho (Santa Maria, Brazil) and Katie Sakalauskas (Surrey, Canada) on the All-AAC squad.

Aguilar went 11-3 this season with two of her defeats coming as a No. 2 singles' player with the rest of her matches coming in No. 3 singles' play.

Sakalauskas and Coelho both went perfect in singles' play. Sakalauskas went 12-0 with Coelho winning all 11 matches.

The five players on the squad are the most Union has earned in program history.

Aguilar made her second straight appearance on the conference's All-Sportsmanship team.

Negosek and Nicole Bistline (Frankfort, Ky.) were Union's representatives on the Academic All-AAC squad.

Union enters the AAC Tournament Friday with the top seed and will play the winner of the Milligan (Tenn.) College and King (Tenn.) College first-round match at 1 p.m. in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Lady Bulldogs enter the postseason with an overall record of 11-3 including a perfect 6-0 AAC record. Union looks to remain undefeated against conference foes, a streak that covers 31 matches over the last four seasons.
