
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Junior right-hander Adam Snyder tossed a complete-game, seven-hitter to help lead No. 2 seed Union College to an 11-1 victory over third-seeded Bluefield (Va.) College Tuesday, advancing the Bulldogs to the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship game.
Union (43-9 overall) will meet up with top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan College Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.
Tennessee Weslesyan defeated Milligan (Tenn.) College 17-2 to win its pool.
With the victory, Union guaranteed itself a spot in the NAIA World Series Opening Round. The pairings for the 46-team field will be announced Friday.
Snyder (Knoxville, Tenn.) gave up one earned run on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in notching his first complete game of the season. He also upped his record to 4-1 while lowering his earned-run average to 4.75.
Union grabbed the early lead in the second thanks to a Ryan Satterlee (Youngstown, Ohio) grand slam.
In the fourth, Kenny Kysar (Corbin, Ky.) lined a run-scoring single to up the margin to 5-0. Later in the frame, Joe Grinstead (Bowling Green, Ky.) drew a bases-loaded walk to up the margin to 6-0. Troy Sitton (Cobden, Ill.) followed with a bloop single to knock in another run. Lioney Henriquez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) then scored on an error to make it 8-0. The Bulldogs added another run to take a 9-0 lead.
After Bluefield scratched out a run in the top of the fifth, Henriquez singled in Kysar to make it a 10-1 contest in the bottom of the frame.
Henriquez added a solo home run in the eighth to make it 11-1.
Henriquez kept up his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 for the third game in a row as he drove in two more runs to give him nine RBIs for the tournament. Satterlee finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs.Bulldog Notes
