BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Daniel Finn has been named the new head coach for the Union College men's and women's tennis programs, Union Director of Athletics Darin S. Wilson announced recently.

"We are very excited about having Daniel join our staff and Union College," said Wilson. "We believe Daniel will help continue the tradition that has been built within the tennis program. And with his Kentucky roots, we look forward to him strengthen our local recruiting base."

Finn replaces Renzo Lopez, who resigned to pursue other interests following the 2009 season. During his tenure, Lopez took both the Bulldog and Lady Bulldog tennis programs to the NAIA National Championship Tournament three times and won the NAIA Region XII Championship twice. The Bulldogs won the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championship three times, while the Lady Bulldogs won the AAC regular-season championship four times and the tournament title three times.

"From what I have seen, Union is a great place to be," said Finn on joining the Bulldog coaching staff. "I am excited about the support that the athletic department gets (at Union). I feel like I have and will receive the support I'll need to do big things right away."

Prior to coming to Union, Finn was the head men's tennis coach at NCAA Division III Simpson (Iowa) College.  In his one season with the Storm, Finn guided the team to a 9-13 record after going 0-11 in 2008.

Finn is no stranger to Kentucky as he spent two years as an assistant at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College, where he also played four years. As a member of the Blue Raiders, Finn helped his team win four Mid-South Conference championships as the team was ranked regularly in the NAIA Top 25, reaching as high as No. 6. During his junior season, Lindsey Wilson reached the quarterfinals of the 2005 NAIA National Championship Tournament.

As an assistant, he helped coached Candela Castanon to an individual national championship while the Lady Raiders made back-to-back appearances in the NAIA National Championship Tournament semifinal round.

The Center, Ky. native graduated from Lindsey Wilson in 2008 with a degree in Recreation and Physical Education. He is a graduate of Metcalf County High School.

Finn and his fiancée Roxanne Kirchener are to be wed on Saturday.
