BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Jamaine Gordon has been promoted to head coach for the Union College cross country and track & field teams, Union Director of Athletics Darin S. Wilson announced recently.

"We are very excited about having Jamaine taking over the reins of theUnioncross country and track & field programs," said Wilson. "Jamaine has worked diligently to help take the program to new heights."

Gordon takes over after serving as an assistant coach in the program since 2007. He focused on sprints and jumping events during track and field season. Gordon graduated from Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College in 2007 after a stellar career. He was an eight-time NAIA All-American honoree with four indoor and four outdoor. Gordon also jumped his way to the 2005 NAIA Outdoor Triple Jump National Championship.

"I see this as a great opportunity for me and Union College to continue to work together and to grow the program," Gordon commented.

He takes over for Jamie Jimison who left to pursue other interest. Jimison took over the programs in February 2005. He revitalized the track and field program during the spring of 2005. During his time, Jimison coached an individual NAIA Indoor 60-meter dash national champion in March along with the Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field championship in April. He was named the AAC Coach of the Year after the championship. Jimison also directed 10 NAIA All-Americans with a total of 28 NAIA National Championship entries. During his career, he also produced six NAIA scholar athletes.

"Coach Jimison has been a encouraging and an insightful mentor," Gordon said. "He has left Union College with a strong foundation and now it's my job to put the bricks on top."

Along with the conference and national awards, Union lowered 32 program records during the indoor and outdoor track & field season.

"I have great aspiration for the cross country and track & field programs at the conference and national level," Gordon concluded.

The Bulldogs finished the 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in a tie for 20th after a 19th-place finish at the indoor championship.

Union opens the 2009 cross country season September 4 at the Shawnee State Invitational in Portsmouth, Ohio.
