SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Union College Sports Information Office garnered a total of six awards as part of the 2008-09 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics-Sports Information Directors of America (NAIA-SIDA) Publications Contests.

The awards were announced during the NAIA-SIDA Convention on June 20 on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) University in San Antonio, Texas.

"I am very proud of our sports information office," said Union Director of Athletics Darin S. Wilson. "The quality of work that Sports Information Director Jay Stancil and Assistant Sports Information Director Gene Renfro produce is among the best in the country. Jay and Gene do an excellent job of promoting Union's athletic programs, and they are continually striving to do better."

Union's highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the Walt McAlexander Baseball Brochure Contest. Union also placed fifth in the Football Brochure Contest and 10th in the Women's Soccer Brochure Contest.

Stancil placed eighth in the Dr. W. Jack Bell Writing Contest for Season Preview/Review Stories for his season preview story on the 2008 Bulldog football team. In the Dr. W. Jack Bell Writing Contest for Feature Stories, Stancil recorded a seventh- and eighth-place finishes. His story entitled "Union's Pollock racing up the record books" placed seventh while his story entitled "Union's Callahan: Catch him if you can" took eighth.

In the past seven years, the Union Sports Information Office has received a total of 44 NAIA-SIDA Publication Awards.
