SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Union College Sports Information Director Jay Stancil has been elected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics-Sports Information Directors of America (NAIA-SIDA) Board as the First Vice President.

The elections were held during the NAIA-SIDA Convention on June 20 on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) University in San Antonio, Texas.

The First Vice President post is a two-year appointment. Part of the responsibilities of the position includes the planning of the annual NAIA-SIDA Convention. By virtue of being a vice president, Stancil is in line to become President of NAIA-SIDA in 2011.

Stancil has served the past four years on the NAIA-SIDA Board as an At-Large Representative. In 2005 and 2008, he was elected to a three-year term.

Making up the rest of the NAIA-SIDA Board are Sam Ghrist of Eastern Oregon University, President; Michael MacEachern of Savannah (Ga.) College of Art and Design, Second Vice President; Ron Smith of Westmont (Calif.) College, Three-Year At-Large Representative; Cindy Fotti of Columbia (Mo.) College, Two-Year At-Large Representative; Steven Aldridge of Union (Tenn.) University; One-Year At-Large Representative; and Dave Parsons of Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University; Past President.

During his career, Stancil has received numerous awards, earning 44 NAIA-SIDA Publication Awards including three first-place honors and one Best Cover. In addition, he placed first in the NSCAA Writing Contest in the Deadline/Game Story Division in 2005 and third place in the CoSIDA's Fred S. Stabley Sr. District IV Writing Contest in 2006 and 2007.

Stancil has been the sports information director at Union since August of 1999.
