BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College recently announced the 2009 signing class for the women's soccer team.
Second-year head coach Jason Lanham added six players, two transfers and four freshmen, to the squad.
The transfers are Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Stephanie Cagle (Independence, Ky.). Casey Camargo (Lexington, Ky.), Dani Gilbert (Ft. Thomas, Ky.), Jenn Sckirl (Edmonton, Canada) and Ashley Quinton (Lancaster, Ky.) make up the freshmen class.
Nardy comes to Union from NCAA Division II member Northeastern State (Okla.) University. While there she was a two-time All Lone Star Conference team member. Nardy was on the conference's second team as a freshman and first team last season.
Cagle played last year at NCAA Division I Morehead State (Ky.) University. She played her prep soccer at Simon Kenton High School where she led the team to the KHSAA Sweet 16 in 2007, the first appearance in program history.
Camargo played as a defender at Henry Clay High School. She also played club soccer for the Jessamine Storm and Nike Kentucky Rush programs. Camargo brings solid play and a great pace to the team.
Gilbert graduated from Highlands High School and is another defender. She has an ability to push forward and help create an attack. She was a part of two KHSAA State Championship teams, 2005 and 2006, along with a state runner-up finish last season.
Sckirl played in the midfield at McNally High School. She brings great field awareness and should be a valuable addition to the Union midfield. Sckirl will be asked to help fill the void left by Heather Jaques who graduated in the Top-10 in Union's career goals and points list.
Quinton finished her prep career with Garrard County High School. She adds a versatile player to Lanham's squad. She spent time as a defender and goalkeeper. Lanham foresees her providing playing time on the back line.
Union compiled a 14-5 record last season in Lanham's first season with an Appalachian Athletic Conference record of 4-3. Included was Union's perfect 10-0 home record. The Lady Bulldogs finished the year with a setback in the AAC quarterfinals. The 14 wins in 2008 doubled the 2007 total.
