BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College recently added Nicole Aikens, from Todd County Central High School to the softball squad starting with the 2010 season.
During her senior season, Aikens was selected to the All-13th District and all-region teams after leading the squad in batting average. She posted a 2.02 earned-run average with 8.5 strikeouts per game. Aikens help lead Todd County Central to a third-straight region tournament bid as well.
In 2008 she was on the all-district and all-region teams as Todd County Central won the 13th District Championship, the first in program history. Her first all-region honor came as a sophomore in 2007 as Todd County Central made it to the region tournament for the first time in program history.
She finished her career with 735 strikeouts with a 2.44 earned-run average. At the plate, she owned a career .407 average with 68 RBIs and 54 runs scored. Aikens also tossed two perfect games during her prep career.
"I am very happy to sign a quality student-athlete like Nicole," Union head coach Danny Fish commented. "She will add stability and depth to our pitching staff."
While at Todd County Central, Aikens played for head coach Troy Winders.
Union finished the 2009 season with an Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament runner-up finish in May after entering the event as the No. 5 seed. The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the season at 27-25, marking the third straight year Union won at least 20 games.
