BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College has signed Knox Central High standout guard Chad Messer as he will continue his basketball career with the Bulldogs.
Messer played four seasons at Knox Central and was a part of two 51st District championships squads. He was a second-team all-region player as a senior.
"It is always great for us to be able to get local talent," said interim head coach Sean Gillespie. "I am pleased that Chad has chosen Union for him to continue his education and to play collegiate basketball."
During his senior campaign, Messer averaged 9.7 points per game with 51 three-pointers.
He was also named to the All-Southeastern Kentucky Conference squad twice.
"His ability to knock down the three point shot will fit well into our offensive system of play," Gillespie added. "I know that he will be an asset in our program both on and off the basketball court."
While at Knox Central, Messer played for Union alum Brandon Elam.
Union posted an overall record of 15-15 with a 10-8 Appalachian Athletic Conference mark in 2008-09. The Bulldogs will open the 2009-10 season on Nov. 6-7 at the Joe B. and Denny Classic in New Albany, Ind.
