BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College's Marcela Salum scored twice as the Lady Bulldogs won the 2009 Lady Bulldog Soccer Classic Saturday 3-1 over Emmanuel (Ga.) College. Salum also earned the classic's Most Valuable Player honor.

Salum scored the match's first goal after she received a corner kick from Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) and headed it into the goal to put Union in front. Her goal came in the match's sixth minute. Salum scored again in the 76th minute with Peixoto providing the assist.

Salum added to her three goals from Friday to earn the classic's most valuable player nod.

Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) added a goal six minutes later to boost Union's advantage.

Emmanuel cut the lead in half during the 55th minute thanks to a goal from Lauren Moore.

Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) stopped four shots in the victory.

Union had 19 shots in the contest while Emmanuel attempted seven.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-0 on the season while Emmanuel went to 1-2.

Union returns to action with a home match against Midway (Ky.) College Wednesday at 2 p.m.

In the consolation contest earlier in the day, Helena Farias provided a quick score for Cumberland (Tenn.) University and then added five more goals in the opening half as Cumberland went on to defeat Tennessee Temple University 15-0. She scored the first five goals of the match and finished with seven scores in all with two assists. Morgan Shafer added a hat trick with a trio of assists. Simone Quinn also booted home three goals.

Cierra Boots recorded two saves in the shutout for Cumberland. Cumberland attempted 34 shots while Tennessee Temple had two.

Lady Bulldog Notes
