DAYTON, Tenn. - Union College opened Appalachian Athletic Conference play Wednesday with a 3-0 win at Bryan (Tenn.) College as three different Lady Bulldogs scored in the contest.

Union improved to 6-0 overall with a 1-0 AAC record. The 6-0 start of 2009 matches what the 2008 squad did. Bryan slipped to 1-1 in league play and 2-3 overall.

Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) took a pass from Marcela Salum (Guatemala City, Guatemala) for the first goal in the fifth minute.

Before the end of the opening half, Katarina Sprunk (Port Charlotte, Fla.) scored off a rebound in the 38th minute.

The final goal came off a penalty kick in the 90th minute of play. Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took the shot after Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) was fouled in the box.

Nardy recorded four saves in goal to help the Lady Bulldogs to their fourth shutout of the season.

The Lady Bulldogs had 19 shots and 14 were on goal. Bryan was credited with six shots.

Union returns home to host Milligan (Tenn.) College for another conference tilt Saturday at 2 p.m.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • For only the second time in five years, the Lady Bulldogs won their AAC opener and both wins have been shutouts. The other was a 1-0 decision over Tennessee Wesleyan College in 2007.
  • Nardy's penalty kick was the first of the season for Union. She also became the 13th different player to score a goal this season.
  • Since the start of the 2007 season, Union has a 20-1-1 record when scoring three or more goals, including 11 straight wins.
