GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Union College has a doubles' team reach the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament hosted by Georgetown (Ky.) College as the event has been fighting weather delays.

The Bulldogs' duo of Nicolas Ernst (Rietheim, Germany) and Pierre Vernin (Le Coteau, France) will play a semifinal contest Sunday morning after a 8-0 win over Covenant (Ga.) College late Saturday night.

After a first-round by, Ernst and Vernin advanced in the doubles' draw as the No. 2 seed after an 8-5 win over Angel Marquez and Pablo Numbela from Campbellsville (Ky.) University. Next was an 8-2 decision against Giovanni Santos and Tanner Stancil, from Tennessee Wesleyan College.

Ernst, the No. 7 seed on the singles' side, lost in the semifinals 6-3, 0-6 and 6-3. To reach the semifinals, he won 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4 in a quarterfinal contest Saturday over Bethel (Tenn.) University's Andres Mejia, the No. 2 seed, to advance. He had to fight back in the third set after falling behind 2-0 early.

Ernst also beat Georgetown (Ky.) College's Paul Ganev 6-4, 6-4 to move into the quarterfinals.

Earlier in the draw, he moved into the round of 16 by beating Zac Malyon, from Campbellsville, 6-1, 6-1.

Vernin beat Campbellsville's Terry Caven 6-2, 6-1, but lost to Brescia (Ky.) University's Thiago Mastroianni 6-1, 6-4.

Lucas Oliveira (Rio de Janero, Brazil) dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match to Campbellsville's Pablo Numbela.

Oliveira teamed with Kyle Shilling (Knoxville, Iowa) for a first-round win in doubles over John Carmack and Steffan Crowe, from the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). Oliveira and Shilling then lost in the round of 16.
