
BREVARD, N.C. - Union College collected 14 Top-10 expert finishes while a Bulldog cyclist won two ‘B' races during a weekend of racing at Brevard (N.C.) College as the riders faced muddy conditions.
Rachel Millsop (Springdale, Ark.) provided four of Union's Top-10 efforts. Her best finish was a second in the dual slalom. was seventh in the downhill event. She was fourth in the short track, sixth in cross country and seventh in downhill.
Zach Winn (Port Hope, Canada) posted two Top-5 expert rides with a second in the dual slalom and fifth in short track races.
Sean Trinque (Pascoag, R.I.) rode to the front of the field to win both the cross country and short track ‘B' events.
German Bermudez (Louisville, Ky.) finished eighth in both the short track and cross country races. He also qualified 14th in the dual slalom. Brad Nelson (Carmel, Ind.) had a pair of 10th-place rides in both the dual slalom and cross country. He qualified sixth for dual slalom. Greg Gibson (Provo, Utah) led the Bulldogs in the cross country race and then he finished ninth in dual slalom after qualifying fourth. Wes Lamberson (Limestone, Tenn.) was seventh in short track.
Zac Moore (Loveland, Ohio) was second in the ‘B' cross country and fourth in the short track races. Colin McEacharan (Blenheim, Canada) had a third-place ride in ‘B' short track event with a sixth in the cross country.
Tara Gambrel (Middlesboro, Ky.) was eighth in the dual slalom. Maria Esswein (Perryville, Mo.) performed well as well in her first collegiate expert cross country race.
Union head coach Chuck Coffey commented on how every week in the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference is comparable to national-level competition every week.
Union will travel to the SECCC Championship this weekend at Clemson (S.C.) University.
