
JACKSON, Tenn. - Union College secured a 3-2 win at Union (Tenn.) University Tuesday after Marcela Salum scored before halftime.
Salum (Guatemala City, Guatemala) booted home the eventual game winning goal in the 41st minute for Union (Ky.). It was the 12th goal of the season for the sophomore and her fourth game winner of 2009. Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) provided the assist.
Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) scored the first two goals for Union (Ky.). The opening score came 10 minutes in to tie the contest. She then gave Union (Ky.) the lead in the 29th minute. Peixoto provided the assists on the second goal while Salum had the first assist.
The win boosted Union's (Ky.) record to 7-0 which is a program record for most wins to start a season. Union (Tenn.) went to 5-4-1.
Candice Blackard scored the match's first goal three minutes in which put Union (Tenn.) in front. Jamie Haynes tied the match at two apiece with her goal in the 34th minute.
Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) stopped eight shots in goal for Union (Ky.).
The two goals allowed matches what Union (Ky.) had given up in the previous six matches to start the season.
Union (Ky.) returns to action with a home Appalachian Athletic Conference contest Thursday at 2 p.m. against Milligan (Tenn.) College.
