CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Union College posted its best finish in program history as the Bulldogs came in second at the Green River Classic at Phillips Lanes in Campbellsville, Ky., Saturday.
"We are very excited about this outcome," said Union coach Matt Mahony. "We are looking to take this and build on it as we get ready for the rest of the season. We don't want to just be satisfied with this result; we want to continue to improve."
Union led the field after the qualifying rounds with a score of 4,413. St. Catharine (Ky.) College was close behind with a total pin fall of 4,378. During the round of 16 Baker Games, the Bulldogs finished third with a score of 2,663. Campbellsville (Ky.) University was first at 2,716 with St. Catharine second at 2,701.
However, Union only slipped to second with a total score of 7,076, three behind St. Catharine.
Two Bulldogs placed in the top five. Jesse Beal (Dayton, Ohio) was second overall with a total score of 965. He also led Union a single-game best of 231. Jordan Rummel (Athens, Tenn.) also made the top five, coming in fourth with a 915.
The Bulldogs return to action on Oct. 31-Nov. 1 when they will participate in the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic in Marietta, Ga.
