BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore quarterback Mike Brinkley earned the Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after guiding No. 18 Union College to a 31-0 victory last week, the league office announced Monday.

This marks the second time Brinkley has received the honor this year and the third in his career.

The Bulldogs are 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Mid-South Conference East play following the shutout victory over West Virginia Tech Saturday.

Playing only during the first three quarters, the Anthony, Fla. native still passed for 328 yards and two scores on 23-of-34 passing. He also ran for 46 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. The rushing touchdown is the first of his career, while the 46 rushing yards are a career high.

Brinkley was one yard shy of tying his career high in passing yards. He threw for 329 yards in a 37-34 win at UVA-Wise on Nov. 1, 2008. This was the fourth 300-yard passing game in his career and third this season.

On the year, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound signal-caller has thrown for 1,225 yards and 11 touchdowns on 87-of-149 passing. Brinkley has ran the ball for an additional 139 yards on 31 carries, giving him 1364 yards in total offense.

Brinkley is closing in on a milestone as he has 3,836 career passing yards. He needs only 164 more yards to become the fifth player in program history to throw for 4,000 yards. Brinkley ranks second in program history in touchdown passes with 43.

Union returns to action Saturday when it will pay University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) a visit. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
