
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College had two Appalachian Athletic Conference volleyball weekly award winners, the organization announced Monday. Amelia Cantrell was named the hitter of the week while Monica Moreland picked up another setter of the week honor.
Cantrell (Georgetown, Ky.) earned her first AAC weekly honor with the award. The sophomore averaged 3.3 kills per set over seven sets last week with a total of 23 in Union's three matches. She tied her career high with 13 kills at Bluefield (Va.) College Saturday. In the Bluefield contest, Cantrell posted a .632 hitting percentage which is her third match this season with a .600 percentage or higher. She totaled five blocks for the week as well.
Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) earned her third setter of the week honor of 2009. She averaged 11.7 assists per set last week. Moreland posted three straight 30-plus assists contests last week. The three matches give her 17 this season with at least 30 assists. She also had 10 digs at Bluefield for her 12th double-double in 2009. Moreland also had at least one kill in every match in the week with a high of three against Tennessee Wesleyan College.
Union won all three matches last week, three AAC wins, to improve to 18-3 overall and 10-1 in league play. The Lady Bulldogs will take an 11 match winning streak into Tuesday's 7 p.m. contest with Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College at Robsion Arena.
