
TRUCKEE, Calif. - Junior Zach Winn made history over the weekend as he won the 2009 NCCA Division II Men's Omnium National Championship in helping Union College to a second-place finish in the team competition.
The three-day event was held at Northstar at Tahoe Resort in Truckee, Calif.
In capturing the overall individual national title, Winn (Port Hope, Canada) is the first person in program history to accomplish the feat twice as he won the 2008 NCCA Division II Omnium National Championship. Amanda McKay is the only other person to win an omnium championship for Union.
Winn placed second in cross country, third in short track, seventh in four cross and 37th in downhill to collect his second consecutive omnium title.
As a team, Union garnered 533 total points to place second behind Brevard (N.C.) College, which collected
663. The second-place finish is the highest for the Bulldogs since winning the 2002 national championship.
On the women's side, Rachel Millsop (Little Rock, Ark.) posted a third-place finish in the 2009 NCCA Division II Women's Omnium, improving on her fourth-place showing from last year.
Millsop was fourth in cross country, fifth in short track and downhill and eighth in four cross.
