WILMORE, Ky. - Two program records fell and 21 NAIA National Championship Meet qualifying times were reached Saturday as Union College swim teams had mixed results in their dual meets against host Asbury (Ky.) College and Bellarmine (Ky.) University.
The Bulldogs lost to Asbury 76-46 but defeated Bellarmine 107-3. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs won 91-18 over Bellarmine but lost 76-39 to Asbury.
"I am really proud of our swimmers," said Union coach Rafael Forti. "They have endured a tough program of events and have swum hard every single time they hit the water. Performances like these convince me
that we are on the right track and all of us are on the same page."
Kasey McCormick (Hebron, Ky.) not only hit a pair of NAIA qualifying times but also set a pair of program records. She set the records in the 100 Breaststroke (1 minute, 12.69 seconds) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:42.38).
Other Lady Bulldogs making qualifying times are: Molly Fritto (Seaside, Calif.) in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle; Tamsin Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) in the 100 Butterfly, 200 Butterfly and 400 IM; and Mollie Messmer (Scott City, Mo.) in the 400 IM and 500 Freestyle. The Lady Bulldogs also had relay teams to qualify in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
The Bulldogs had the following to make qualifying times: David Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle; Louis Paschal Glavinos Jr. (Mount Washington, Ky.) in the 100 Backstroke; and Luis Alberto Ambrosio Filho (Santa Barbara D'Oeste, Brazil) in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke and 400 IM.
The Bulldogs also had their 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relay teams to hit qualifying marks.
