BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College is picked to finish second in the Appalachian Athletic Conference in 2009-10 according to the league's women's basketball coaches' poll, the conference recently announced.

The Lady Bulldogs (20-11 overall in 2008-09) garnered four first-place votes and 76 total points, one fewer than preseason favorite Milligan (Tenn.) College. The Lady Buffaloes collected the remaining five first-place votes.

Rounding out the top five are Tennessee Wesleyan College (59 points), Reinhardt (Ga.) College (44 points) and Bryan (Tenn. ) College (42 points). UVa-Wise and Bluefield (Va.) College were sixth and seventh, respectively, with 39 and 37 points.

Montreat (N.C.) College received 19 points to place eighth, while Virginia Intermont College is ninth with 12 points.

Union finished fourth in the conference last season with a 12-6 league mark.

The Lady Bulldogs open the 2009-10 season Nov. 3 at home against Asbury (Ky.) College at 7 p.m.
