DAYTON, Tenn. - Freshman Ashley Hall netted a pair of goals and sophomore Brittany Puryear came up big in goal in lifting Union College to a 2-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over host Bryan (Tenn.) College Wednesday.

"We didn't play particularily well, especially in the first half," said Union coach Juliana Filipe. "But we played much better in the second half. Our passing was sharper, and we control play better.

"It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but it's a win ... and that's what's important."

Hall (Hazard, Ky.) wasted little time in putting the Lady Bulldogs (5-3 overall, 3-1 AAC) on the board as she powered home a Karla Goncalves (Sao Paulo, Brazil) pass within the first two minutes of the game, making it 1-0.

Bryan (4-4 overall, 1-2 AAC) tied the game with a late, first-half tally to make it 1-1 at the intermission.

Coming out of half, Union came out firing all on all cyclinders, and Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) set up Hall for her second goal of the evening to put Union up 2-1.

Bryan outshot Union 11-10, but Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) stood strong in goal for the Lady Bulldogs as she registered 10 saves.

"Brittany played very well for us tonight. She made a lot of good, quality saves and really kept us in the game," Filipe said.

Union's next game is slated for Saturday when it will play at Campbellsville (Ky.) University at 1 p.m.
