BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - King (Tenn.) College rallied from an early deficit and pulled out the 2-1 victory over host Union College Wednesday in non-conference action.

The loss dropped Union to 9-4-1 overall with King improving to 9-7 on the season.

The Bulldogs and Tornado used to be rivals in the Appalachian Athletic Conference up until this season when King began the transition phase into NCAA Division II ranks.

In the 30th minute, Union took a 1-0 advantage when Chris Riley (Cornwall, England) headed in a thrown-in from Aaron Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio). Throwing in near the right corner of the field, Miller heaved the ball to the far side of the goal where Riley leaped above the defenders to head the ball in for the game's first goal.

King netted the equalizer just minutes before the half when Colby Childress slipped in a crossing pass from Erik Douglas behind Union goalkeeper Jonathan Shaw (Merseyside, England). The crossing pass cut right in front of Shaw in the 6-yard box, and Childress was in perfect position on the right side of the box to drive it in.

Three minutes into the second half, Andy Kimball headed in the go-ahead goal off a Childress header to make it 2-1 in King's favor.

The Bulldogs had a couple of good scoring chances in the second half, one by Kevin Niehaus (Independence, Ky.) and another by Miller. Yet, Tornado goalkeeper Justin Morrell was up to the task, making four of his eight saves in the second half.

Despite giving up two goals, Shaw played well in goal, making three point-blank saves as he finished with seven stops.

Union returns to action Saturday against AAC newcomer Reinhardt (Ga.) College at 4 p.m.
