MONTREAT, N.C. - Union College posted a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over host Montreat (N.C.) College Saturday, moving the Lady Bulldogs closer to their second conference regular-season crown in three years.

The win improved Union to 23-4 overall andBold 14-1 in the AAC. A win over Bluefield (Va.) College Thursday will clinch the league title for the Lady Bulldogs. The match is set for 6:30 p.m. in Robsion Arena.

Montreat dropped to 23-16 overall and 11-3in the conference.

The Lady Bulldogs took the first set 25-21 before cruising to 25-16, 25-18 decisions in the next sets en route to the sweep.

Senior Autumn Combs (Florence, Ky.) led the team with seven kills, while Chelsea Kirschman (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Brooke Vinovich (Somerset, Ky.) followed with six and five kills, respectively.

Junior Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) recorded 23 assists with Amanda Silva (Londrina, Brazil) and Meg Donnelly (Middletown, Ohio) helped out with nine and seven digs, respectively.

Union returns to action Tuesday at University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • The sweep was Union's 13th in its last 14 victories.  On the year, the Lady Bulldogs have posted 19 sweeps and have not been swept all season.
  • The 23 assists by Monica Moreland are the fewest she has recorded in a match all season and snaps a nine-match streak of having 30 or more in a match.
  • The nine digs are the third fewest Amanda Silva has had in a match. Her previous lows are six (vs. King (Tenn.) on Sept. 8) and seven (vs. Virginia Intermont on Oct. 16).
