BEREA, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's swim team each picked up victories over Bellarmine (Ky.) University and host Berea (Ky.) College Saturday as two school records fell.

The Bulldogs defeated Bellarmine 55-18 and Berea 55-26, while the Lady Bulldogs won 58-24 over Bellarmine and 54-33 against Berea. Both Union squads are 3-2 on the year.

"Today, we have had an interesting meet as we had the opportunity to observe many of our swimmers on events they do not swim very often," said Union coach Rafael Forti. "Overall, I am happy to see that we have different and good options on most events, which adds to the flexibility and depth of our line-ups."

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs each had a program record to fall. David Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) set the men's 100 Backstroke mark with a time of 56.02 seconds. On the women's side, Kasey McCormick (Hebron, Ky.) set the 50 Breaststroke record with a time of 34.06 seconds on the split of the 100 Breaststroke event.

In addition to the new records, Union posted 12 NAIA National Championship Meet qualifying times.

The Bulldogs had five qualifying times with Luis Filho (Santa Barbara D'Oeste, Brazil) recording three. Filho qualified in the 50 Freestyle (23.10 seconds), 200 Individual Medley (2:06.08) and the 100 Freestyle (50.77 seconds).

Also qualifying for the Bulldogs was Johnson in the 50 Freestyle (21.67 seconds) and the 100 Backstroke (56.02).

The Lady Bulldogs had seven qualifying marks with the 200 Medley Relay (2:00.39) and 200 Freestyle Relay (1:54.93) teams making the cuts.

Tamsin Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) qualified for two events, advancing in the 200 Individual Medley (2:23.62) and the 100 Freestyle (58.62 seconds). McCormick qualified in the 100 Breaststroke (1:13.67), Mollie Messmer (Scott City, Mo.) hit the mark in the 200 Freestyle (2:10.17), and Molly Fittro (Seaside, Calif.) advanced in the 50 Freestyle (26.46 seconds).

Union returns to the pool on Nov. 14 when it will host Bellarmine, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College and Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
