MARIETTA, Ga. - Union College recorded one of its best finishes in program history as it placed 21st at the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic in Marietta, Ga., over the weekend.
The Bulldogs posted a total pinfall of 10,552 to finish 21st out of 27 teams.
Lindenwood (Mo.) University won the event with a score of 12,639 with Webber International (Fla.) University (12,469) took second place. UNLV edged out Pikeville (Ky.) College for third place by only three pins (12,142-12,139), and Santa Fe (Fla.) College was fifth.
After Saturday's opening round, Union in 22nd place with a total pinfall of 6,153. But during Sunday's 24 Baker games, the Bulldog averaged 180 per game and picked up wins over Florida State, St. Catharine (Ky.) and South Florida to pick up one spot in the overall standings.
With the 21st-place finish, Union collects some key power points that will help it qualify for sectionals.
In victory over Florida State, Union started out the game with seven strikes in a row before finishing with a 247.
Chad Ferguson (Louisville, Ky.) paced Union with a 30th-place finish as he posted a pinfall of 1,399. He also rolled a team-best, single-game score of 243. Jordan Rummel (Athens, Tenn.) was next on the team with 1,322 pins. His best single-game score was 227.
Rounding out the field for the Bulldogs were Jesse Beal (Dayton, Ohio) at 1,305, Rueben Shanks (Front Royal, Va.) at 1,086, and Cody Proffitt (Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) at 1,041.
Next up for Union is the BTM Striking Knights Classic in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 21-22.
