BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College ended the regular season on a sour note as visiting Covenant (Ga.) College posted a 2-1 decision Tuesday at Bulldog Field.
The loss dropped Union to 9-5-2 overall, while Covenant improved to 9-4-2 on the season.
The Scots drew first blood when Julian Allgeier powered in a 12-yard shot off an assist from Tyler Morrison in the 29th minute.
Union wasted little time in evening the scoring at 1-1 as Jonathan Sutton (Portsmouth, England) boomed a long-range shot that found the back of the net in the 30th minute. Brett Smith (Berea, Ky.) collected the assist.
It remained knotted at 1-1 until the 70th minute when Colby Robbins scored to put Covenant up 2-1 for good.
The Scots dominated play for the most part as they outshot the Bulldogs 24-11 overall and had 10 shots on goal to Union's five.
Senior Nathan Koebcke (Corinth, Ky.) did his best to keep the Bulldogs in the game as he recorded eight saves in the loss.
Covenant goalkeeper John Eger notched three of four saves in the second half.
Union returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Tennessee Wesleyan College in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Burch/Nau Field.
