RICHMOND, Ind. - Indiana University East used a late rally to propel itself to a 78-59 victory over visiting Union College Tuesday.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs 0-2, while the Red Wolves improved to 2-3 on the year.

Down 28-24 at the half, Union cut the deficit to 33-32 after back-to-back baskets by Jerome Carmichael (Newport, Tenn.) with 15:25 left in the game. However, the Bulldogs were not able to reclaim the lead as the Red Wolves reeled of eight straight points to open up a 42-32 cushion at the 11:50 mark.

From that point on, IU East steadily added to its lead, eventually leading by as much as 19 en route to the 78-59 victory.

IU East hit 58.6 percent (17-of-29 shots) from the field in the second half and finished the game making 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the floor.

Union connected on 23-of-49 shots (46.9 percent) from the floor on the night.

Carmichael paced Union with 15 points, while Darrel Jackson (Jonesboro, Ark.) and Payton Ponzer (Independence, Ky.) followed with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Noah Douglas led the Red Wolves with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyler Rigby and David Sanders each netted 13 points. Justin Hawkins and Brenton Burris chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Union returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Bevo Francis Classic at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio). The Bulldogs will face Taylor (Ind.) University Friday at 4 p.m.
