KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Union College garnered three votes in the second regular-season edition of the 2009-10 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll, the NAIA announced Monday.
The Bulldogs (5-6 overall, 3-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) are tied for 35th with Central Christian (Kan.) College. Union received only one vote in last week's poll.
With a perfect 10-0 record, defending national champion Oklahoma Wesleyan holds as the No. 1 team in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 poll. The Eagles notched all 14 first-place votes and 374 total points. Recently, Oklahoma Wesleyan broke the all-time NAIA Division II record with its 28th straight win against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist on Dec. 4. The Eagles have not lost in almost a year dating back to January, 2009.
Through 10 games, Oklahoma Wesleyan leads the country in 3-pointers made (13.1 pg) and is fourth in scoring offense (93.8 ppg). The Eagles have hit 95-plus points on four occasions.
Off to its best start since the 1997-98 season, No. 2 Walsh (Ohio) moves up one spot. The Cavs are 8-0 on the year and earned 361 total points. Ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in scoring offense (109.3 ppg), Walsh has notched 100-plus points in four games including a school record 154 points (Dec. 4).
Next in line is No. 3 Northwood (Fla.), No. 4 Bethel (Ind.) and No. 5 Oregon Tech.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The third regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Monday, Dec. 14.
Union returns to action Saturday at Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) University at 3 p.m.
